Garden Makeover With Wyevale Garden Centres

Garden makeover

Hello everyone!

My garden, much like my house, has been an ever evolving project.  Most of it looks lovely, but there are corners that need a little extra love.  So, when the people at Wyevale Garden Centres asked if they could gift me some garden accessories and plants, it was a no brainer.  (They are very generously giving away an Ashford Bistro Metal Garden Furniture set like mine, in the colour of your choice – carry on reading to see how you can enter!)

A botanical paradise in my garden…

So the first area that needed a little love, is the strip of gravel by the side of my kitchen.  Long term I would love to extend down this space as many owners of Victorian terraces do.  Until then, I wanted to make it a botanical paradise.  Somewhere where I could sit with a coffee in the morning, and listen to the birds.  Somewhere to sit in the evening, with a glass of chilled wine.

When I saw this bistro set (it’s called the Ashford Bistro Metal Garden Furniture set), it was total love at first sight.  I mean, that colour…I think it was made for me!  Plus I love the pop of colour when combined with the brick wall and the gravel.  Next I picked some solar power LED lights to add a bit of pretty ambient lighting once the sun goes down.

Picking my plants…

Garden makeover

The really fun bit for me was visiting my local branch with a gift voucher, and picking out some beautiful plants.  I was like a kid in a sweet shop!

As this is a shady area, I decided to go for some bold, shade tolerant plants, and to display them en masse.  I chose Fatsia Japonica, a glossy, shade tolerant plant that is evergreen, and has that cool, botanical jungle feel to it.  It grew in abundance at my old house, and I loved it.  Planted in large pots to create a botanical pathway, I knew it would look really beautiful, and lead your eye through tot he end of the garden

The second plant I went for was my beloved hydrangea!  With those shades of blue and purple how could I resist, and I knew they’d look amazing with the turquoise of the bistro set.

Under the apple tree..

The second areaI decided needed a bit of summer accessorising, was at the bottom of my garden, between the apple tree and the summerhouse.  It’s a gorgeous spot, with the very old Norfolk stone wall that Dad and I renovated a couple of years ago, under the canopy of my apple tree.  When I need 5 minutes, I sit there with a cuppa.

First up I chose these gorgeous blue and white stripe deckchairs.  I also chose the Barrington chimnea, so when the sun goes down we can sit and  still stay cosy!

How cool is this amazing tree chandelier?  I absolutely love the vintage style lightbulbs, and it looks so magical hanging in the apple tree.

Finally, I chose two metal wash dolly pots.  I absolutely love these, as they look genuinely vintage, and add that reclaimed French look that I love so much in gardens.  they look lovely with the hydrangeas in, but would also look beautiful overflowing with cottage flowers, such as foxglove and lavender.  You can see one below in the foreground, the one behind is vintage.

Hi there, I’m with you and love the turquoise bistro set. As we are currently in the middle of a house renovation, I’d use it to pretty up the soon to be patio area in the garden (and as a much needed quiet spot to enjoy a quick break from the madness that goes with renovating with kids!)

Turquoise like you, as it’s my favourite colour. I’d put it in the corner of our roof garden so we’d have somewhere to sit in the shade when it’s hot.

I would absolutely love a turquoise set….. yours looks so beautiful and I can see the colour changes according to the time of day. I would like to put it at the end of the garden near our summer house ( built by my husband from his own design!) It is a places that catches the sun in the morning, lovely to sit with a coffee, or with a glass of wine in the evening where the evening sun is dappled through the leaves of the elderflower.

    Hi Tamsyn
I would dearly love to sit at a turquoise table in my teeny tiny back yard. My outdoor space is a very small Victorian terraced back yard and I’m working on trying to bring more colour to the mostly old Yorkshire stone surroundings. This table would be perfect! Lucyxx

I’d love the turquoise bistro set, I love colour! My garden is split level, it would look lovely on the second tier patio over looking my pretty pink/lilac hydrangeas I got from my grandmas garden before she sold her house, I love that they come back each year, slightly different shades each time

    Hi there Tamsyn,
I would love the duck egg blue to put just outside my back door for an early morning cuppa in the sunshine and a glass of rose in the evening.
I love the tree chandelier too. What a great idea.

  37. 18th June 2018 / 9:33 am

What a stunning garden Tamsyn. Love the colour of those hydrangeas! I would pick the stone colour and put it on the sun terrace of our new build project. It would look perfect, surrounded by lots of textural planting & lovely old zinc tubs, and our holiday guests would enjoy using it for years to come! Xx

This would look great in my court yard part of the garden which is a sun trap and where I find myself most mornings to escape the mad house, as we have just adopted two little boys and as a new parent I need that calm for five minutes! Which im guessing most parents needs. I have also potted loads of sweet peas in this part of the garden, so I would have to go for the stone colour to to make the sweet peas really stand out and so I can see sticky hands on the seat before I relax..

My wooden table and chairs are slowly falling to pieces so this would be the perfect replacement! I’d choose the stone colour and would love to spend the summer surrounded by the bees and butterflies enjoying the sweet peas, lavender and wallflowers in my garden.

Hello, Lovely post and great giveaway.
I would love to win the turquoise set, not for me as I don’t have a garden, but for my mum. She has a little secret area at the back of her garden and this would look amazing there. At the moment she uses an old log to sit on, so this would make a beautiful gift for her. The rest of her garden is filled with her handmade ceramics, herbs, fruit trees, vegetable patch and even a big banana plant. It’s not a huge garden, but it’s beautiful.

It has to be the turquoise, my favourite colour, it works so well both inside and out. I also have a garden full of hydrangeas so I’d put it on the patio circle I’m waiting for my hubby to lay (the new furniture might give him the incentive?!)
