Hello everyone! How has your Wednesday been?
I took these snaps a few weeks ago, when I had a photography play day. It feels so indulgent, but a day of creating just for yourself when you work as a creative, is so important. I’m spending a lot less time nowadays scrolling on my phone, and instead I’m using that time for me.
I shot these using my big c-stand, which is a hefty bit of equipment that weighs a ton, but looks very cool! (I got one after the wonderful Kim Klassen talked about them. Kim is not only a really lovely person, but she shares so many amazing photography tips over on her website, especially about using Lightroom, so do check her out.) There’s a big overhead arm, and a grip for your tripod head, so you can get the overhead shot without regular tripod legs appearing in the shot. They are traditionally used as boom stands in filming apparently. One word of advice if you get one though – use a sand bag to balance it out once you’ve mounted your camera – the stand might weigh a ton, but your camera is pretty heavy too, especially once the arm is fully extended. Let me know in the comments if you want me to show you how I’ve got the hang of using my c-stand to create these overhead shots. There is a bit of faffing involved, but it’s so worth it.
What else has happened today…oh yes, I’ve made veggie soup (cheap as chips and soo delicious), and ordered a macro lens (definitely not cheap as chips, even second hand, I nearly broke into a sweat pressing the order button). I can’t wait to try it out though, it will be amazing for shooting jewellery and small hand crafted things (hint hint! Drop me a line if you want me to shoot your product for you!). I’ll have a play with it when it arrives and let you now how I get on.
A couple of you lovely readers have been in touch after yesterday’s post – I’m looking for unique houses to shoot for features, and I’d love to hear from you. You can read more about it here.
