Botanical Style Cabinet Makeover With Chalk Paints By Annie Sloan

(Paints and wax gifted to me by Annie Sloan, all views my own.)
Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!
I have been a huge fan of Chalk Paints By Annie Sloan for a very long time, so when the lovely folks there asked if they could help with any painting projects I had up my sleeve, I jumped at the chance! Not only are these paints super easy to use, I also really love how you can take a fine art approach when using them, and get really creative.
I chose two pieces of furniture for a makeover, the first being this sweet little vintage cupboard that I have had for years. It has lost a little of the decorative moulding, but it’s proportions and glazed doors make it a pretty and practical item of furniture.

Now there was nothing wrong with it before – it was a perfectly lovely little cabinet. However, as you know I am a big lover of shades of green, from minty fresh greens through to turquoise and teal, and shades of green pop up a lot in my home. The Pantone colour of the year is Greenery, and the botanical trend is huge in interiors at the moment, so I knew I wanted to go really bold with it and paint it bright green, and style it up with some house plants. I think that painting a small piece of furniture is a great way to bring a pop of colour into the home, especially if you’re not brave enough to paint a whole room in that colour. Little cabinets and shelves can be sourced cheaply enough in charity shops and at car boot fairs, and look lovely painted in bright shades. So, I chose Antibes for the exterior of the cupboard and the gorgeous Florence for the inside. (I also used Antibes for the little painting of the cheese plant.) I knew I wanted to keep the paint finish very simple so that the colour is the real feature, so when I finished I just picked out a little bit of the ornamental carving on the front with Florence, as well as the lip of the top of the cabinet, before finishing it off with a layer of Annie’s clear wax.
I absolutely love how the cupboard looks now, it looks really fresh, especially against a white wall. I’m going to make it my mission this summer to find lots of books in shades of green to fill it with! I still have plenty of this colour left too, so I’m looking forward to getting really creative with it and mixing some more shades of green up with some Old White, and layering up some colours before sanding back to reveal them. I am also working on my second makeover piece which will have quite a different finish to this one, so I will share some snaps with you as soon as that’s ready!
