Beautiful, Vibrant Dahlias

Hello everyone!

I hope your first week of September went well, especially if you were getting back into the groove of the school run!

I came back from the allotment the other week with this haul of fiery dahlias.  I make no apology for the countless dahlia snaps – they are truly majestic, there is no other bloom like them.  Next year I will also grow some paler, blush coloured blooms, including the elusive Café au Lait dahlia, to act as a calm backdrop for these other more intense shades.  My top tip for growing dahlias has to be – and I’m afraid it’s not glamorous! – the addition of well rotted horse manure to the soil.  Yes, horse manure!  But, I really think that’s what propelled my blooms this year to super star status, and I shall be doing the same this winter.  In fact I did it quite late this year, I forked it in towards the end of the spring.  It must be well rotted though, to avoid burning your plants.

I am heading off to London early tomorrow morning, to take part in my panel about social media tomorrow at Paperfest.  I must confess, I’m feeling pretty calm about it right now, but I’m sure I will be more nervous in the morning!

I’m excited because the first of my big projects that I have been working on recently, goes to print.  I will of course share it with you here as soon as it’s out!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks!
