Reclaim Magazine – Decorating With Vintage Tiles

Hello everyone!

I know not all of you would have been able to see my new monthly feature in Reclaim Magazine, so I’m really happy to share the first one with you!  This one is from the issue that came out in September, so I’ll share the rest of them with you over the next week or so, until we are up to date.  Speaking of which, Issue 21 is on the shelves any day now,  and it’s the Christmas issue, woohoo!  I particularly loved styling and shooting that one, so do grab a copy if you can.  Not only that but I actually have two features in there, the other one I styled and worked with my dream team Janice Issitt and Alice Roberton, and it’s all about an upcycled, decorative Christmas.

Vintage and reclaimed tiles…

Anyhow, back to this issue and the pictures above.  (I shot this back in the heady heights of August, seems a long time ago now!)  My brief was to give readers ideas for using reclaimed tiles to decorate their home.  I’ve been collecting beautiful antique and vintage tiles over the last few years, mainly because of my eclectic splash back in my bathroom.  So it was fun to come up with a few different ideas!  When it comes to seeking out old tiles, I’ve found most of mine on eBay, and some from car boot fairs too.

From the top –

Seek out 1960’s and 1970’s tiles for a retro splashback.  This one is in my kitchen, and I absolutely love the tutti-frutti colours.

Repurpose vintage tiles by using them as coasters and to create a beautiful table runner for a special party or dinner.  The more mismatched they, the better!

Another eclectic pretty splash back, this time in my bathroom.  It’s so easy to tile a small splash back like this.  I just applied the tile adhesive and stuck them on the wall, and then grouted once they were firmly fixed.

Give a small table or cabinet a new look by tiling the top.  Again, mismatched tiles create an eclectic look, and do bear in mind the table will be heavy once it is tiled!

Have a wonderful day folks!
