Divine Homegrown Dahlias….

  • Homegrown orange and pink dahlias

Hello everyone!  I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend…

Dahlias, my favourite homegrown bloom…

If you have followed this blog for a while, you will know that hometown dahlias are one of my favourite blooms.  They are one of the most perfect cut flowers, with their rigid stems, long vase life, and the divine colours.  I ordered a selection of tubers in candy colours this year, and although I’m still waiting for many to bloom, I love these two varieties.  The cactus bloom is called Sugar Diamond, and the pompom is called Linda’s Baby.  I’m now patiently waiting for my Café au Lait to flower, a perfect creamy pale peach colour.

Make the colours pop…

I decided to shoot them against my back canvas backdrop, as I knew it would really make the colours pop.  To add a bit of texture, I brought in the rusty old green cabinet that has been living in my garden for the last few years.  It made me realise what a fab prop it is!  Maybe I’d better bring it inside so it doesn’t deteriorate too much…

The other two shots above were taken in my bedroom, just before the sun goes down behind the trees…I love the orangey golden light that falls into my bedroom, it’s just so pretty.

I’m about to edit some photos from our wonderful day out the children and I had on Friday, on what I think was the hottest day of the year!  It was so worth it though, as the place we visited was very quiet.  I’ll get those posted for you this week.

You can see my favourite ways to style homegrown dahlias in this post here!
