DIY Vintage Fabric Memo Board

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a lovely weekend!

I have just made this memo board for my daughter’s bedroom, a task that I have been meaning to do since last summer, to hold all her paper treasures that currently sit in piles around her room! My staple gun decided to give up on me, hence why this little project sat gathering dust. I now have a shiny new one, so Sunday morning seemed the perfect time for a spot of crafting.

Like me, my daughter can’t help but keep little mementoes – gift labels, birthday cards, hand written notes…we are both very sentimental, and find it really hard to throw pretty things away. So, I picked up a large cork board for her last summer at a car boot fair. I paid a couple of pounds for it, and it’s the sort of thing you see lots of at car boot fairs. I then let her choose her fabric for it, and she went for this fab retro floral duvet cover , which again I paid a couple of pounds for. Fifteen minutes later, I had this gorgeous memo board for her room. As I’m sharing this project with your, I though I’d go digging around in the archives to find this tutorial that I put together a couple of years ago, and you can see it below!

What you need…

DIY Memo Board

You will need –

A cork board in the size of your choice

Fabric

Craft wadding

Fabric Scissors

Staple gun

Pretty things to pin on your memo board – postcards, tickets, brooches etc

Pins – I used dressmaking pins with pearl heads

First of all, cut your wadding and fabric. I placed my cork board on the wadding, and simply cut round it. For the fabric, I cut it bigger than the board, as you need to pull the fabric round to the back of the board to staple it. I allowed approximately 3 inches all the way round.

To staple your fabric, start with a corner. Pull the fabric over the corner to make a triangle. Make sure it’s taut, and staple it down.

Then pull the side edge of the fabric round to the back – staple gun in nearly all the way down, stopping short of the corner – repeat the above process for that corner.

Work your way all round the board, making sure the fabric is pulled taut so that the front of the board is nice and flat.

Hey presto, your memo board is done! Next, take your decorative bits and arrange them on the board –

I used sewing pins with pearl heads to pin my bits and bobs.

This would look lovely with jewellery pinned to it, or to display beautiful handwritten letters and mementoes.
