How To Make A Moss Chandelier

Hello everyone!

Hurrah for the weekend!  It’s been a long week here – the children are getting tired as the end of term nears, and I’ve had a busy week work wise (Which is brilliant!  I’m learning that this being freelance business can be a bit of a roller coaster ride!).  So, we have a day of festive decorating, crafting and baking lined up today.  We are also off this morning to find our ‘big’ tree to go in the living room, which we are so very excited about!

I’ve seen these moss chandeliers on Pinterest, and have been wanting to make one for a while now.  There’s something very winter wonderland about them – they would look beautiful grouped together with lots of white twigs.  I had a little vintage lampshade which I was keeping especially for the project.  I found the chandelier fairly straightforward to make, but it is a bit fiddly, so allow a bit of time if you fancy giving it a go.

You will need –

An old lampshade, with the fabric taken off.

Moss – buy from florist supply shops, eBay, or in your garden!

Florists wire, or any soft pliable wire.

Chandelier drops – if you don’t have these how about vintage buttons, glass beads or broken costume jewellery.

The idea is that you work around the shade, securing moss to the frame by wrapping the wire round it.  I worked with pieces of wire approx 12cm long.  Fasten your first piece of wire by wrapping it around the frame a few times so it won’t slip off.

Once your frame is covered in moss, attach your decorative sparkly bits too the bottom of the frame using more wire.  I also hung some more drops from the inside of my frame (where it would normally sit on the bulb) for extra bling!  I attached 3 long pieces wire to the top of shade, and twisted the top together and made a loop so I can hang the shade wherever I fancy.  If you make one, I’d love to see it so tag me in on Instagram!

Have a wonderful weekend folks, I look forward to sharing snaps of our festive crafting and tree decorating with you!
