Pretty Spring Still Life

Hello everyone!
I hope you’re having a lovely weekend. I’m a little late sharing these images and words from the Easter issue of Reclaim magazine, but better late than never!
Spring is the perfect time to inject a little prettiness into your home. With candy pastels, sweet florals and touches of nature, have fun decorating using a mix of botanical elements and mementoes from the past.
Bulbs in containers
Bring some of the outside in, to remind you that spring is a time for new life. Gather a section of vintage vessels such as old baking tins or serving dishes, and plant up with narcissus or hyacinth. The scent as the flowers open is divine!
Duck Egg Blue
Decorate using shades of duck egg blue, from silvery grey all the way to delicate sage green. Take colour inspiration from pretty vintage cotton reels, and pile them high in a shallow bowl. Get handy with a paint brush and paint treasures you find on your travels to give them a new lease of life – old picture frames and old tool boxes are some of my favourite things to paint for a flash of colour.
Fabric covered eggs
A fun Spring craft is to make these pretty vintage fabric covered eggs. I used polystyrene eggs to make these, and cut tiny pieces of vintage fabric (try and find fabrics with tiny, ditzy florals or patterns), and then glued them on using PVA. Once dry, display in a sweet china bowl, or you could even attach ribbon and hang from some twigs.
It’s blowing a huge gale outside, so we are going to stay cosy this afternoon at home. It’s a pity as the last of the blossom is being scattered in the air, although I hope it rains enough to give the ground a good soaking – it’s been so dry here recently, and the hydrangeas need it to get really going. I have apple blossom, the last of the cherry blossom, lilac, and next door’s clematis Montana tumbling over the fence. I’ve never had all this in bloom at the same time, and it looks so pretty!
In case you missed my last post, a woodland tea party for the Cosy Shed, you can check it out here!

Please do leave a comment, I love hearing from you!
Everything looks so beautiful Tamsyn. I tried to grow spring bulbs inside in vintage containers last year but it was an epic fail!! They shot away green & then just rotted off. I am wondering ….. do you get them quite well established before you put them in your containers?? Your fabric eggs are beautiful … I have had some success with this craft.
Hi Julie, thank you so much for your kind comment! I tend to only plant them once the green shoots are already sprouting quite well – I sometimes pick them up front market, or I dig them up from the garden, but the green shoot has to already be well established. I hope this helps! Best wishes Tamsyn x
So beautiful! I LOVE the fabric eggs, such a brilliant idea. Lots of love XX
