Revamp Your Home With A Rug

Hello everyone, I hope your week is going well!
As you may remember, I had a bit of a disaster back in the Autumn. My son’s bedroom ceiling decide it no longer wanted to be attached to the very fabric of this house, and came crashing down one Friday night. (Thankfully, he wasn’t in there at the time. Or anyone else for that matter.) I can’t even start to describe the mess – huge chunks of plaster and grit landed on his floor, and a huge billow of dirty grey dust puffed out from his bedroom, and seemed to cover the whole upstairs of the house. Old houses eh? It was a huge clear up operation, and I dutifully stumped up for a new ceiling, and for half his room to be replastered.
The long and short off all this, is that I had to completely redecorate his room, which gave me a chance to update some of the colours and accessories in there. Like the rest of the house, I’ve kept it bright white, but I decided it was time to make it a bit ‘cooler’, with more of a vintage eclectic vibe. Needless to say his old rug was left in a bit of a state after the ceiling came down, so when Wayfair asked me if I’d like to revamp a room with one of their rugs, I put my hand up quicker than a flash. This is a ‘no carpet’ house, as I love the look and feel of whitewashed floorboards so much. However, a good rug finishes a room, and is an absolute must to keep the rooms cosier, especially in these draughty period houses.
It was a very easy decision to make when it came to choosing the perfect rug, and I knew straight away that the Everly rug would look gorgeous. There are already shades of pale green and lime in his room, and I love really mixing modern patterns and pieces with vintage finds. I think this works really beautifully with his existing furniture, and against the whitewash floor. Being hand tufted, it’s also really thick and cosy, perfect for little feet in the colder months. Apparently it also makes a very good place for building Lego, and is usually covered in it!
You can find the Everly Hand tufted rug here. Wayfair have a huge choice of rugs, so there is something for every room and budget.

Oh it’s such a perfect colour and design Tamsyn! I love it when something new fits in so beautifully with the vintage vibe – I sincerely believe that it’s all about the mix when it comes to achieving a comfortable home. I shall definitely pop over to the Wayfair website and have a nose around as I’ve never looked before. x
Thank you so much Paula, it does look really cute doesn’t it! xx
It looks beautiful! What do you use to whitewash the floors ?
Hi Rachel, thank you so much! I used Ronseal floor varnish in white ash, you can get it in Homebase and B&Q 🙂
Your new rug looks amazing Tamsyn. I adore everything about your sons room, especially the pastel vintage colours. I do remember when your ceiling came down & can sympathise. Our lounge ceiling came down last year … mind you we were helping it along as we were replacing it. I remember the whoosh it made as it crashed to the ground & the endless mess that I thought would never end!!!!
Thank you so much Julie, ah you know exactly what it’s like then! There is still to this very day dust and grit inside his Lego and toy cars…!
Hi honey what size rug is it 🙂 can’t decide on size for my sons room lol xxx
Hi Ally! The rug I went for is 121cm x 182cm as his room isn’t huge, hope this helps! x
