This year, I wanted to grow more dahlias in pale shades of pink, from pale pinky creams to candy rose. By the time they flowered, the wooden labels I had enthusiastically put in the soil to tell me what they were back in April, had long ago bleached in the sun.
I do love that 'back to school feeling', it feels like another New Year. Time to get a brand new notebook and make new plans, for the home and for my business.
I’m a bit of a lazy gardener, I have neither the time or patience to create the perfectly manicured garden. One thing however that I do love to grow, is the humble dahlia.
English Peonies is based in Norfolk about 35 minutes from me, and as the name suggests, is a fabulous cutting garden where Sarah grows stunning peonies alongside all other cut flowers.
After our heatwave in June and July, the garden is finally looking a little more productive, and is rewarding me with these magnificent blooms in these final golden days of summer.
If you have followed this blog for a while, you will know that dahlias are one of my favourite blooms. They are one of the most perfect cut flowers, with their rigid stems, long vase life, and the divine colours.
