Upcycled Teacup Chandelier

Hello everyone!
How are you doing? I hope you are safe and well.
Pretty Upcycled Teacup Chandelier
Today I’m sharing some snaps of the kitchen teacup chandelier, which has not only been cleaned (it was pretty grimy!), but has also been given a makeover. It used to have pastel vintage baubles hanging from it. They were very pretty, but I fancied a change. Not only that, but I’d also broken a couple (they are as delicate as eggshells).
I fancied something a bit more whimsical, and for years I have been slowly collecting miniature vintage teacups from car boot fairs. Teacups are a love of mine at any time, but miniature ones – oh my heart! As someone who drinks practically a pint of tea at a time, I can’t imagine that the purpose of these is anything other than decorative. I bought the teeny tiny ones on the upper tier, from a lady at a car boot fair who had a whole boxful. I really regret not buying more now, as they were ridiculously cheap. There’s something very Alice in Wonderland about tiny teacups I think.
So first I hung one or two, then more followed. I had some lovely comments on an Instagram post the other day (find me here!), where you can just see the teacups coming into view. So I decided to just put the whole lot up there, to create a pretty teacup chandelier.
How I made it…
The chandelier itself, whilst not vintage, I bought from Loose’s Vintage Emporium in Norwich. A delightful mix of old fashioned junk shop and all things antique and vintage. I didn’t pay much for it (I never do!), and I think it might have been an old Laura Ashley or BHS type chandelier. It is actually a dummy chandelier in my kitchen just for decoration, as I’ve got LED ceiling lights, although maybe one day I should get it wired up. There was a strip light here when I first moved here, and I couldn’t wait to get rid of it!
I very roughly gave it a wash of white paint when I bought it, as it was quite yellowy in colour. Then all I’ve done as attach the teacups using soft wire, through the holes where the glass drops would go. I’ve actually got a few other bits on there too. An odd earring, a pretty pendant, a random blue glass drop. I’ve got some tiny keys I might add too, for more of that fairytale vibe.
In other news…
In other news, I finally am able to get into my summerhouse (I lost the key!), so I’ll take some snaps of that to share with you soon. If you missed my last post about my big garden makeover project, you can see it here.
Take care and stay safe.

Please do leave a comment, I love hearing from you!
I LOVE this! It’s so sweet and whimsical. I only have two of these miniature tea cups which I purchased from a friend who’s mother was an antique dealer. I didn’t think they had any use except to look like charming little pieces of porcelain, but now I see that they can have a use if one is clever and imaginative. I wonder what they were originally intended for? A child’s toy tea set, maybe? I just read your post on your garden re-do, Tamsyn, and you weren’t kidding! You really did a garden makeover. It looks charming. You broght a smile to my day. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning as always Tamsyn and so, so pretty. You never fail to inspire me. So pleased you’ve found your Summerhouse key. You will be able to sit there and admire your beautiful garden. Take care and stay. Lots of love XX
