Vintage Classics for Reclaim Magazine

Hello everyone!  I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend?

I really enjoyed this shoot I put together for my feature in Issue 31 of Reclaim Magazine.  My brief was to style and shoot my top four vintage classics, with a hint of whimsey and in unusual settings.  My favourite kind of brief!

Shooting the suitcases was comical to say the least.  It was back in the summer (August?) when it was still really hot.  I carried these suitcases, a trolley full of books and a rucksack with my camera and kit in it, down the beach and up the dunes.  I was bright red, with my dress hitched up, and was getting some really funny looks!  The end result was so worth it though, especially as the pages of the books were flipping in the wind, which I kind of liked.

I hung my lampshades in the apple tree at the bottom of the garden, shot a moody take on a vintage typewriter and ephemera, and captured my collection of vintage cameras on contemporary shelving.  The next issue is on sale on the 11th, and I’ll be sharing ideas on how to style modern chintz in your home!  Lots of floral, flouncy fabrics, my favourite.

I have spent rather a large portion of this weekend, painting a huge black backdrop, to hang in the studio.  I love playing around with dark and moody vignettes, and backdrops are the best way to switch up the mood of a space.  It was an epic task as it is so big, and I managed to get paint just about everywhere!  I snapped some of my Café au Lait dahlias in front of it this afternoon, so I’ll share those with you next week.

I’m out styling cakes on a shoot for the next two days which I’m rather excited about!  Am I hoping that we might get to sample some of them?  Of course!

Have a wonderful start to the new week folks.
