Whitewash Floor In My Living Room!

Hello everyone!

I hope your October is going well, I’m ready to get cosy and enjoy all the autumnal feels!

It’s been a little while, I took bit of a blogging break, but I’m back with a living room makeover!  It’s been a bit of an epic task actually (you may have followed in in my Instagram stories), sanding paint off a floor with a hand sander, is definitely not one of the most fun jobs out there.  But SO worth it, as I love my new floor!

I painted the floor with a floor paint back in 2014, after a brilliant floor sanding man painstakingly sanded the boards to perfection.  However the paint hadn’t weathered well after 5 years (not helped by me dragging furniture around!), and for the last year I’ve been thinking how great it would be to use the same whitewash I’ve used in the rest of the house.

Before…

So, faced with a quiet time work wise this month, I decided now was the time to get it done.  I purchased the largest hand sander I could find, and set to work last Monday, and was finished by Wednesday evening.  I deliberately didn’t remove every last drop of paint, because I think it adds patina and history – especially where the paint had settled in sinks and scratches.  I used the same whitewash varnish (from Ronseal) that I’ve used everywhere else in the house, and I love the beachy, Scandinavian feel it has now.  Hand sanding isn’t for everyone, it’s hard work and very boring –  but if you do it, make sure you have a really good dusk mask, and a kneeling pad for your knees!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.  I’ve had some lovely adventures the last month which I’m looking forward to sharing with you, including my first ever trip to NYC!
