Winter Wonderland

Hello everyone!

I hope this week has been good to you.

We had a flurry of snow yesterday.  I grabbed the opportunity with both hands to throw some props into a rucksack, and to trudge out to the heath opposite my house to get this shot.  It’s far from perfect – the wind was blustery and sleet started to fall from the sky, drenching me, my camera and the props!  The candles were meant to have a other worldly glow about them, but alas the wind kept blowing them out.  It’s vital now and then to shoot in an unfamiliar environment, against the clock, to try something different.  A few hours after I had taken this, the snow had all but disappeared, a fleeting winter wonderland.

This week has been a huge learning curve for me.  I am well aware that January can be a bit of a damp squib in the creative industry, so I’m very grateful that I’ve been crazy busy sine the new year.  As a freelance person, you have to make hay whilst the sun shines!  This week saw me juggling two important deadlines, one to get a commission for a magazine in by yesterday (really excited to share that with you in the spring!) and the other was making props for a children’s shoe company campaign which is being being shot next week.  I pulled a few very late night this week to get everything done, and I made my deadlines.  I have bags the size of suitcases under my eyes, but it is worth it.

I am packing my suitcase again this morning to go to Leeds for a few days with my mum to visit my brother, which I’m really looking forward to.  We plan to mooch around the shops, go to the cinema, and to go to some gorgeous restaurants.  I am also planning to hunt down some vintage shops and emporiums, so I will let you know if I find any treasure!

Have a wonderful weekend
